About the Endocrine Glands
- Thyroid gland: Butterfly-shaped gland located in the front of the neck that controls metabolism, energy use and body temperature.
- Parathyroid glands: Small glands behind the thyroid that regulate calcium and phosphorous levels, which are vital to healthy bones.
Conditions BCH Treats
- Thyroid nodules
- Thyroid cancer
- Enlarged thyroid (goiter)
- Hyperthyroidism
- Hyperparathyroidism
- Parathyroid adenomas
- Suspicious thyroid masses
Surgery may be recommended when thyroid or parathyroid diseases cause symptoms, abnormal hormone levels, suspicious nodules or cancer. Removing abnormal tissue can relieve symptoms, restore hormone balance and prevent future complications.
