Obstetrician or midwife — The choice is yours
At BCH, you can decide to have either an obstetrician or certified nurse-midwife
care for you — starting at the moment you know you’re pregnant
to the instant you cradle baby in your arms. Finding the right fit will
depend on the type of birth experience you’ve dreamt about and your
medical needs.
Obstetricians: Our
obstetricians-gynecologists, or OB-GYNs, are physicians who’ve spent four years after medical
school in a residency program becoming experts in every stage of pregnancy
and childbirth, including both routine and complicated (high-risk) pregnancies.
If you decide to receive OB-GYN care, you’ll experience a more traditional
approach to monitoring your pregnancy and delivering your baby.
Certified Nurse-Midwives: As registered nurses who’ve earned their master's degrees in midwifery
and undergone special training, our
certified nurse-midwives care for women with low-risk pregnancies and seeking a more natural birthing
experience. Nurse-midwives are strong supporters of empowering maternity
patients throughout their journey and bringing a nurturing, emotionally
oriented approach to natural childbirth.

All of our maternity patients give birth at the
Family Birth Center at Foothills Hospital in Boulder. Recognized for top-quality care with
several awards and designations, our welcoming and experienced obstetricians,
midwives and nurses at the Family Birth Center work together to give you
the happiest, healthiest birth experience possible — and your baby
