Neurosurgery

To protect our patients and staff, all people entering a BCH care facility will be required to wear a mask (exceptions include children <2 yrs. old or medical reasons such as trouble breathing, unconsciousness, or someone unable to remove a mask without assistance). *Cloth masks, bandanas, neck gaiters, and masks with valves are not acceptable.

Our expert team of neurosurgeons at Boulder Neurosurgical and Spine Associates of BCH has set the standard for the most advanced neurological, cranial and spinal surgeries in the Boulder Valley. We specialize in the least-invasive approaches — including minimally invasive Mazor X Stealth™ robotic-assisted spine surgery and MR-guided focused ultrasound, a nonsurgical treatment for essential tremor.

In addition, our functional and stereotactic neurosurgery program provides comprehensive evaluation and treatments for patients with movement disorders and chronic pain syndromes, including neuropathic low back pain.

1st in Colorado to offer advanced treatments

BCH neurosurgeons have set an impressive standard for offering our community the most advanced treatments. We were the first in Colorado to introduce:

  • MR-guided focused ultrasound: A new, incisionless treatment for essential tremors.
  • CyberKnife: Minimally invasive, incredibly accurate radiosurgery treatment that precisely targets tumors.
  • Intraoperative MRI: State-of-the-art technology that offers BNSA of BCH neurosurgeons real-time viewing of tumors during surgery and allows them to confirm intraoperatively that the entire tumor has been removed while still in surgery.
  • Minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery: A less-invasive option for treating brain tumors.

Other advanced treatments

  • Mazor X™ Stealth system: Robotic-guided surgery that makes complex spine surgery safer and less painful. Used in the treatment of a variety of spinal conditions, ranging from degenerative disc disease to scoliosis. BCH’s Foothills Hospital was the first Colorado hospital north of Denver to offer this revolutionary technology. Please view our blog on the Mazor X™ Stealth system to learn more.
  • Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS): A minimally invasive, targeted surgical procedure, primarily used to treat Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor.
  • Latest tumor treatments: Advanced surgical techniques and technologies to treat a broad range of complex brain and spinal tumors.
  • Laser in neurosurgery: Breakthrough laser technology used as a supplementary tool during discectomy and fusion surgeries. This technology is based on flexible delivery of CO2 laser energy and enables no-touch vaporization of the disc material and scar tissues. Instead of pulling and tearing, we can now simply ablate (dissolve) the tissue.
  • Minimally invasive spine surgery: Advanced techniques to treat a wide range of back and neck conditions, including sciatica, degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis.
