Laboratory Team​The Boulder Community Health Laboratory provides the highest quality services and patient care at convenient locations throughout Boulder County. Our experienced team—board-certified clinical and surgical pathologists, certified medical technologists, lab technicians and more—is dedicated to exceeding our patients’ expectations.

We perform a full range of standard laboratory tests. If you need a highly specialized test that we don’t perform, we will get your results through our partnership with Mayo Clinic’s reference laboratory.

Our Foothills Hospital-based lab is nationally certified as a highly complex laboratory and accredited by The Joint Commission.

Services Offered

At all BCH Laboratory locations, you can access blood-drawing (phlebotomy) and specimen collection services. Our team of pathologists reviews test results and reports to the ordering doctor.

COVID-19 Testing at BCH Labs

BCH is offering COVID-19 testing at all three BCH lab locations by appointment only. Turnaround time for testing is 48 hours. Testing is available by appointment during normal business hours at the following lab locations:

Effective January 5, 2022, all Boulder Community Health laboratory locations will discontinue Travel and Asymptomatic Self-Referral Testing. Additionally, all patients needing testing will require a physician order or will need to contact the COVID Hotline at 303-415-8180 and have an order placed before they can schedule an appointment.

We recommend that you contact your insurance provider ahead of time to discuss how they will process your COVID-19 swab test.

BCH Urgent Care Center COVID-19 Testing

All Urgent Care drive-up testing requires a video visit prior to testing for symptomatic or close contact exposure.

  • BCH Urgent Care Centers are open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Please call one of our BCH Urgent Care locations in Erie (303-415-5810) or Gunbarrel (303-415-5199) to directly schedule a virtual visit
  • If the nurse practitioner recommends swab testing, patients can schedule a drive-up appointment

Types of Tests Offered at our Urgent Care Centers:

  • Rapid COVID/Flu Test
  • Swab Test (PCR)
  • Antibody Test

Who can be tested at our Urgent Care Centers:

  • Those who are symptomatic
  • Those who have been exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual

Please check-in by 6 p.m. to allow for enough time to proceed with a Video Visit and COVID/Flu PCR Test if indicated.

Patient charges will include an Urgent Care virtual visit charge in addition to any testing fees.

Please note that the Rapid COVID/Flu test performed at urgent care sites are still resulted in under 2 hours.

Pricing

A COVID-19 swab test test performed at a BCH Urgent Care is part of an Urgent Care visit, and the charge is approximately $139.

We recommend that you contact your insurance provider ahead of time to discuss how they will process your COVID-19 swab test.

Options for COVID-19 Swab Testing (Physician Ordered)

COVID-19 swab testing is available with a physician's order. It is important that you contact your insurance provider ahead of your test to discuss how they will process your COVID-19 swab test as it may vary for these two options.

Testing with a Physician's Order

Testing is recommended for:

  • Individuals currently experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, which include fever, new cough/shortness of breath, or two or more of the following: loss of taste/smell, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat.
  • Individuals that have had close contact with someone with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19, even if you don't have symptoms.

If you have a BCH physician, you can call that clinic to schedule a convenient virtual visit to assess whether a COVID-19 test is warranted. Your physician can order the test for you.

Individuals without a BCH physician can call their primary care physician or the BCH COVID-19 line at 303‑415‑8180 to be screened for testing. The BCH COVID-19 line is answered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Once an order is placed, patients will need to contact the lab at 303-415-4285 to to schedule the test.

  • Antibody testing is not by appointment. Go to any BCH outpatient laboratory and request a COVID-19 antibody test.
  • You must not be sick and have no symptoms for at least 10 days prior to getting your blood drawn
  • Your specimen will be collected by lab and sent for testing.
  • Results will be available within 24 hours and can be viewed on the MyBCH patient portal.

Pricing

The charge for an antibody test at one of our BCH Lab locations is $80.​ As a self-referral, insurance cannot be billed and payment is expected at time of service. It is important that you contact your insurance provider ahead of your test to discuss how they will process your test.
