Before you receive a service at BCH, you may want to:

  • Check your insurance coverage. BCH accepts most major insurance plans but you will avoid surprises by checking your individual coverage with your employer or insurance company. BCH strongly encourages patients with health insurance to consult with their insurer to determine their financial responsibility.
  • Explore Self-Pay pricing options. We offer competitive self-pay pricing for many medical tests (Imaging, Laboratory, Cardiology, Pulmonary, and Sleep Lab).
  • For services at a BCH physician clinic, call the office directly for a self-pay estimate.
  • Check into financial assistance if you are uninsured or under-insured. For more information, call Financial Counseling at 303-415-8115.

Disputing a Bill

We understand that health care bills can be complicated to understand. We are here to work with you to help you understand your bill, get it paid and off your mind. If you want to dispute a charge, please follow the process below:

  • Have your insurance card(s) and billing statements ready. Please reference the contact information at the top of each billing statement.
  • BCH billing specialists will contact the specific clinic or facility where you received services to request a review of charges. We will then contact you with that information.
  • If your billing issue is not resolved, our billing specialists will work with you to apply for financial assistance, and/or set up a payment plan.

Thank you for partnering with us for your health care needs.

Expect to Get Other Bills

Depending on your illness or injury, you may receive more than one bill for your BCH visit, since independent medical professionals providing services at BCH bill separately for their services.

These may include: ER physicians, radiologists, pathologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ambulance or helicopter, and home care providers.

If you have questions or concerns about one of those bills, please call the number on your billing statement.

Price Transparency for Common Procedures and Services

We know it’s not easy to understand your health care options and the cost of care. At Boulder Community Health, we try to help by providing self-pay information and resources about pricing for common procedures and services. Please see links below for info on:

In accordance with federal hospital transparency requirements, BCH is providing cost information for "shoppable" services and the hospital Charge Description Master (CDM).

A shoppable service is typically non-urgent and can be scheduled in advance, allowing patients to price shop and schedule at a time that is convenient for them. Examples of common shoppable services include imaging and laboratory services, medical and surgical procedures and outpatient clinic visits.

The Charge Description Master (CDM), or chargemaster, is a comprehensive listing of items that could be billed to a patient, payer or health care provider.

Emergency Department charges are based on the level of emergency care provided to our patients at either our Foothills Hospital Emergency Department in Boulder or the Emergency Department at our Community Medical Center in Lafayette.

The levels, with level 1 representing basic emergency care, reflect the type of accommodations needed, the personnel resources, the intensity of care and the amount of time needed to provide treatment. The following charges do not include fees for drugs, appliances, supplies or additional ancillary procedures that may be required for a particular emergency treatment. They also do not include fees for Emergency Department physicians, who will bill separately for their services. Our 2023 Emergency Department Price Estimate Rates reflect the amount a patient might pay if they take advantage of our Boulder Community Health prompt-pay self-pay discount.

Please note: Actual prices on the final hospital bill may vary from an estimate based on the patient’s medical condition, unknown circumstances or complications, final diagnosis, recommended treatment ordered by the attending physician(s) and other factors.

BCH strongly encourages patients with health insurance to consult with their insurer to determine their financial responsibility.
