Kaiser Permanente members gain access to Boulder Community Health

Boulder Valley Care Network providers also available to Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO, Senior Advantage Choice PPO, and Senior Advantage (HMO) Medicare members.

DENVER — Kaiser Permanente members in Boulder County will have more care options closer to home as of March 1, 2024, thanks to two new agreements with Boulder Community Health and the Boulder Valley Care Network.

Kaiser Permanente is Colorado’s leading nonprofit health plan and one of the state’s largest health care providers with more than 516,000 members. Approximately 38,000 members live in Boulder County.

In a new comprehensive facilities agreement, BCH’s Foothills Hospital becomes part of the Kaiser Permanente hospital network for nearly all Kaiser Permanente members. This gives most Kaiser Permanente members in the Boulder area access to hospital services in their backyard, on top of Kaiser Permanente’s existing care locations in Boulder County.

Kaiser Permanente also signed a provider agreement with Boulder Valley Care Network that will offer more provider options for Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO, Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage Choice PPO, and Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage (HMO) Medicare health plan members. These members will have access to BVCN’s network of more than 600 primary care and specialty care physicians, which includes clinicians from the BCH system. This agreement also includes access to facilities across the county, such as the Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion in Boulder, Community Medical Center in Lafayette, and Erie Medical Center in Erie.

“Kaiser Permanente is pleased to provide our members and future members in Boulder County with expanded health care options closer to home. Boulder Community Health is a great addition, as we share common values of providing high-quality, affordable, and accessible care,” said Michael Ramseier, regional president for Kaiser Permanente in Colorado.

“These new agreements between Kaiser Permanente, BCH, and the BVCN really strengthen health care in our community,” said BCH president and CEO Robert Vissers, MD. “The physicians of our three organizations are aligned on keeping people healthy by ensuring affordable, quality care that’s evidence-based, accessible, equitable, and focused on quality outcomes.”

The Kaiser Permanente Choice PPO for large groups and Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage Choice PPO for individual Medicare members are new plans Kaiser Permanente launched in 2024. They feature a blend of Kaiser Permanente’s nationally recognized integrated health care and coverage model and an extended network of Colorado’s leading doctors, hospitals, and health systems.

For those PPO members — along with Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage (HMO) Medicare health plan members — having access to BVCN will create additional availability of both routine care and major procedures with an even broader number of physicians and clinicians, said Dawn Factor, executive director of the BVCN. “This is great news for the Choice PPO and Senior Advantage Kaiser Permanente members who live in the Boulder area. They will have expanded access to more top-quality clinicians and services much closer to home,” she said.

BCH is a nonprofit, community-owned health system with an expansive care network that includes physicians, other clinical professionals, and up-to-date facilities located throughout Boulder, Erie, Lafayette, Longmont, and Superior.

“The shared values of Boulder Valley Care Network and Boulder Community Health are an important factor in these agreements,” said Jeffrey Krawcek, MD, president and executive medical director of Kaiser Permanente in Colorado. “As we continue building our care footprint in Colorado, these organizations closely align with the value-based care model Kaiser Permanente has pioneered in Colorado for 55 years.”
