A chilly drizzle on May 12 did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the
more than 65 hearty souls who got up early, donned sturdy rain gear and
showed up with big smiles to participate in BCH’s latest Walk With
a Doc event, held at a soggy East Boulder Community Park in Boulder.
After listening to a warming introduction by cardiologist
Dr. Nelson Trujillo of Boulder Heart, then a brief talk by neurologist
Dr. Satish Rao of Associated Neurologists about the health benefits of good sleep, the
crowd eagerly walked and talked their way around the scenic wetlands and
pond, filled with happy birds singing away in the rain.
“I walk about a mile or 1.5 miles a few times a week, but I usually
do it alone,” said Richard Williams, an 87-year-old former sociology
professor at CU Boulder and Regis who now lives at Golden West Senior
Living in Boulder. “This is more fun because we get to walk together.”
Each month, volunteers for
Via Mobility Services drive a van filled with Walk With a Doc fans from Golden West
to participate in the monthly walk, which are held at different parks
around Boulder, thanks to the our wonderful event partner, the
City of Boulder’s Parks & Recreation.
This was the fourth walk for Peter Arnold, who first heard about BCH's
Walk With a Doc when a friend (who is a patient of Dr. Trujillo) mentioned
that it was fun and a great opportunity to chat with Dr. Trujillo and
other BCH physicians. “I enjoy the lectures,” Arnold said.
“I meet interesting people and I run into people I know—and
you can keep walking longer than just the loop if you want.”
Join us for our next walk in June, where orthopedic specialist
Dr. Robert Leland of BoulderCentre for Orthopedics will talk about Walking and Arthritis.
The walk will be held on June 9 at North Boulder Park (2848 9th Street)
in Boulder from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Learm more
