Nearly 350 people—including over 50 BCH staff, physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs)—attended the BCH Foundation Spring Gala on Saturday, May 2. In an incredible show of support, our guests, sponsors and donor community raised $1.7M for the Family Birth Center remodel. The remodel ensures our care environment matches the excellence our community has come to know, while giving families greater choice in the birth experience that’s right for them.
The evening featured a series of moving speeches and performances, all honoring the profound experience of birth, family and community. Family Birth Center Nurse Manager, Nonie Wilder, RN, captured the heart of that mission when she shared, “The Family Birth Center at BCH is not just where babies are born—it’s where families are formed, where fear meets reassurance, where life begins, and sometimes where life is fought for.”
Alyssa Carlson, MD, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at BCH, spoke to the enduring legacy and future of that care, reminding guests that “every new life in our community deserves exceptional care from the very beginning.”
Offering a deeply personal bedside perspective, Paige Swales, Certified Nurse Midwife at BCH, shared, “I love supporting women in the raw, real, unpolished and vulnerable reality of birthing a human.”
Internationally celebrated artists, Trevor and Emory Hall, donated a performance of an intimate set of songs and poetry reflecting the births of all three of their children at the Family Birth Center, guided by their midwife, Paige Swales.

We are so grateful to those who contributed to this fundraising effort as we continue to support the evolving health care needs of this community.
To fully realize our $4 million goal, we are seeking generous donor support for the following crucial components of the reimagined Family Birth Center:
- Updating and improving existing labor and delivery rooms, as well as postpartum rooms to reflect the latest technology and accommodations that influence the parent’s choice of hospital and physician or midwife.
- Redesigning the physical space to support a more integrated nursing team, allowing seamless care for families from labor and delivery through postpartum recovery.
