BCH Foundation's Heart to Heart fund celebrates one year of helping patients

At the Boulder Community Health Foundation, our donors have partnered with us to invest in the best medical resources available to support the treatment and recovery of our patients. Our staff and physicians recognize that providing the best quality of care can sometimes mean assisting patients with the social and economic barriers that often contribute to poor health outcomes. Through the support of our donor community, we have been able to empower BCH care teams with funding to assist patients outside the scope of typical care. This has meant that patients receiving cancer care or behavioral health care have been able to receive small grants to help cover the cost of copays, basic living expenses, transportation, or anything else deemed supportive to a patient’s treatment and recovery.

In February of 2023, the BCH Foundation announced the launch of the Heart to Heart Fund. This direct patient assistance fund supports cardiology patients in overcoming barriers to accessing and optimizing their care as well as supporting their quality of life while receiving care at Boulder Heart. The grants made from this fund support patients in the prevention, treatment, and management of their cardiac health. When nominated by a care provider, patients become eligible to receive a grant to help support supplemental health needs. Possible funding opportunities, determined by the care team at Boulder Heart, may include but are not limited to:

  • Support for cost of transportation to and from appointments
  • Support for co-pays, clinical, and medication costs
  • Support for the cost of medical equipment like blood pressure cuffs and cardiac monitors
  • Access to integrative care and wellness services like nutrition, fitness, massage, acupuncture, and reiki
  • Access to behavioral health care

The donors who established the program hope that Heart to Heart will continue to provide financial assistance to cardiac patients so they have one less worry and can focus on their health, wellness, and recovery. As of October 2023, $10,463.09 was distributed to 18 Boulder Heart patients to support their care.
