BCH Cardiologist Dr. Iyengar Talks to Denver Channel 7 About Strokes

  • Category: BCH News Segments

After the sudden passing of actor Luke Perry from a stroke at age 52, it's important to be knowledgable about the underlying causes of strokes. In many cases, high blood pressure or blockages in the arteries can be the cause of a stroke.

However, it's estimated that a quarter of the human population has a patent foramen ovale (PFO), which is a hole in the heart that didn't close the way it should after birth. In rare cases, a PFO can lead to stroke. In this video, BCH cardiologist Dr. Srinivas Iyengar of Boulder Heart talks to Denver7 about what steps can be taken if someone has a stroke caused by PFO.
