BCH Now Offering Moderna Vaccine Booster

BCH Now Offering Booster Doses of Moderna Vaccine

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have authorized booster doses of Moderna vaccines for:

• Individuals age 65+
• People 18 and older who are at high risk for work-related exposure to COVID-19
• People 18 and older who are at risk for severe illness due to COVID-19

Boosters are recommended six months after completing the Moderna two-dose vaccine series. The BCH COVID Vaccine Clinic is located on the second floor of the Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion at 4801 Riverbend Road. The clinic is currently open Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. by appointment only. To determine if you are eligible and to schedule a booster, login to your MyBCH or call our COVID Vaccine Clinic scheduling number at 303-415-7777.

Pfizer Boosters
Pfizer booster doses are also available and can be scheduled through your MyBCH account or by calling the scheduling number.

Mixing and Matching of COVID Vaccines
Recent CDC recommendations indicate that eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots. At this time, the BCH COVID Vaccine clinic offers booster doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccine only.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Boosters Coming Soon
We are currently unable to offer boosters of J&J vaccine. We are making preparations to offer booster doses of J&J and will send out additional information as soon as scheduling is available.

Recipients of the J&J vaccine are already able to schedule a booster of one of the mRNA vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna). This approach is recommended by BCH Infectious Diseases physicians. If you received the J&J vaccine and would like a booster of Pfizer or Moderna, you can schedule an appointment through MyBCH or the scheduling number — 303-415-7777.

Vaccination for Ages 5 – 11
Plans are currently underway to offer COVID vaccination for ages 5 – 11. We anticipate this to begin in early November and will send additional communication when scheduling for this age group is available.

Third Doses for Immunocompromised Individuals
People who have a moderately or severely compromised immune system who received Pfizer and are 12 and older or received Moderna and are 18 and older can schedule an appointment for an additional COVID vaccine dose (third dose). The third dose should be given at least 28 days after the second dose.

Individuals may be immunocompromised due to:

• Solid organ transplant and taking immunosuppressive therapy
• Bone marrow transplantation or stem cell transplant and taking immunosuppressive therapy
• Primary immune deficiency disorders
• Advanced or untreated HIV
• Chemotherapy or other immunotherapy for cancer, some therapies for rheumatologic disorders, or long-term prednisone use

The CDC recommends that eligible individuals receive an additional dose of the same vaccine that they originally received. At this time, the CDC’s recommendation only applies to recipients of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. We are awaiting additional guidance related to the J&J vaccine.

To determine if you are eligible and to schedule a third-dose appointment, login to your MyBCH or call our COVID Vaccine Clinic scheduling number at 303-415-7777.
