Movember – Making every mustache matter for men’s health

Movember – Making every mustache matter for men’s health

Colorado is known for its adventurous spirit and let’s be honest, it’s impressive collection of mustaches. But this November, those mustaches can do more than just make a statement. Movember is a global movement encouraging men to grow a “Mo” to raise awareness and spark conversations regarding men’s health – particularly mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Why men’s health matters

The state of men’s health is in a crisis. Across the world, men are dying an average of 4.5 to 6 years earlier than women, often from preventable causes. Three out of four suicide victims are men, and, "across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.” Meanwhile, prostate cancer is the second most common cancer among men worldwide and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men.

Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects globally, helping change the way health services reach and support men – by engaging open conversations, breaking stigma and inspiring action.

Taking action starts here

At BCH, we encourage all men to take charge of their health – because prevention and early detection saves lives. Simple steps can make all the difference:

  • Stay up to date on screenings: Ask your primary care provider about prostate exams, cholesterol checks and other preventive screenings.
  • Prioritize your mental health: Take time check in with yourself and the people around you – open and honest conversations can make a real difference.
  • Eat well and stay active: Focus on balanced meals and regular movement to support a healthy body.
  • Quit smoking and limit alcohol: Healthy habits help reduce the risk of preventable diseases.
  • Manage stress and find balance: Taking time to rest, reset and recover is an essential part of staying healthy.

Join the movement

This Movember, let’s turn those iconic Colorado mustaches into symbols of solidarity. Grow a Mo, start a conversation or schedule your next check-up – it all makes an impact. Together, we can support healthier men and a healthier community.

Because Coloradans’ already know how to grow a great mustache – now it can grow meaning, too.

Whether your Mo is robust and unstoppable, or fighting for every millimeter, we want to see it! Send a photo of your mustache to pr@bch.org and we will post all the mustaches in our community at the end of the month across our social channels.
