BCH validated as a HIMSS Stage 7 facility for technology adaptation

Boulder Community Health was just validated as a HIMSS Stage 7 facility for our adoption of technology in both our inpatient and ambulatory locations. HIMSS provides the gold standard benchmark for the use of technology in healthcare and Stage 7 represents the top level of performance. We first achieved this measure in 2020 and were just revalidated under their new criteria with an even higher standard.

Only 295 hospitals (6%) and 3033 (8%) of clinics in the U.S. have achieved this elite recognition, and an even smaller number of organizations have achieved Stage 7 for both inpatient and outpatient settings. As a nonprofit, independent health care system, this achievement demonstrates to the world that the adoption of advanced technology is possible in a community health system with a strong, mission-driven team.

“Boulder Community Health offers the latest technology to improve the care of our patients and make navigating healthcare easier in times of need. Our providers are able to provide higher quality care and our patients have a better experience because of the hard work of our team. HIMSS Stage 7 is the global benchmark for the pinnacle of digital healthcare delivery and we are proud to join the elite group of hospitals and clinics who have achieved and retained this accreditation.” - Michael Jefferies, BCH’s Chief Information Officer

The team at BCH has been awarded every major certification for advanced adoption of healthcare technology including:

  • HIMSS O-EMRAM Stage 7 for outpatient care
  • Epic Honor Roll Summa Cum Laude (Top 1%)
  • Epic 9 Gold Stars (Top 17%)
  • Digital Health's Most Wired award from CHIME

  • Has the smallest IT team
  • is the only organization with revenue under $500M
  • has the smallest IT budget

Congrats to the great team at BCH!
