Boulder Community Health’s Boulder Heart has been recognized as a Becker’s "Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Heart Programs.”
Boulder Heart - with four locations in Boulder, Erie, Lafayette and Longmont - is acknowledged as a trusted leader in the Boulder Valley, providing the very best in comprehensive and compassionate cardiac care. Our expert surgeons, cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and advanced practice providers (APPs) build lasting personal relationships and excel in preventative, surgical and life-saving treatments.
“The dream has gone from a very small community hospital to a (heart) program that can compete with any in the country,” says cardiologist Nelson Trujillo, MD. “Short of a cardiac transplant, there’s absolutely nothing Boulder Heart can’t do that anybody else can do. It’s really kind of special.”
Our providers take care of everything from cardiac testing and prevention (including echocardiograms and stress tests) to specialized care for coronary artery disease (CAD); atrial fibrillation (AFIB) and other arrhythmias; structural heart & valve diseases, heart failure (CHF); mitral valve repair; and more. Boulder Heart also offers 24/7 care.
Beyond medication management and heart-healthy lifestyle guidance, Boulder Heart also offers innovative treatments ranging from minimally invasive catheter and robotic-assisted procedures to complex open-heart surgeries performed by some of the most respected and experienced physicians and surgeons in Colorado and the multi-state region.
Two of Boulder Heart’s most respected specialties are robotic-assisted mitral valve repair and the structural heart and valve program – both led by experts in their fields.
BCH’s Foothills Hospital was the first medical facility in Colorado and the surrounding multi-state region to perform cardiac mitral valve surgery via the da Vinci robotic-assisted system.
Daniel O’Hair, MD – Cardiovascular Surgery Program Chair at BCH – is one of the nation’s leading experts in robotic-assisted mitral valve repair and Colorado’s most experienced surgeon for that procedure. He has performed more than 500 robotics cases and 250 robo MVR cases.
“Some patients might feel the need to leave Boulder. Some will get another opinion and come back after (visiting) the Mayo Clinic or Cleveland Clinic. When you come to Boulder Heart, the experience level here is off the charts,” says O’Hair - the lead author of a groundbreaking 2023 international study regarding the longevity of heart valves, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).
Boulder Heart’s Structural Heart & Valve Program is led by Srinivas Iyengar, MD – a national proctor for TAVR and WATCHMAN procedures, peer-reviewed author, and active structural heart speaker at national academic conferences. For WATCHMAN, Iyengar is the highest volume interventional cardiologist in Colorado implanting this device – with a 100% success rate.
“Our team works together for one goal: to provide world-class care in a home-town feel. The training, the skill, the expertise at Boulder Heart is unmatched anywhere, even in academic centers,” Iyengar says.
To the entire Boulder Heart team and leaders: Your inclusion on this list is a true testament to the high-quality, collaborative patient care you provide to the Boulder Valley community. Congratulations!
