BCH establishes a new neurosurgery practice

BCH has established a new neurosurgery practice, Boulder Neurosurgical and Spine Associates of BCH, and added neurosurgeons Drs. Alan Villavicencio and Kara Beasley, along with physician assistants Eric Busch, Tara Adams and Elizabeth Tamaren, to its employed provider group.

Formerly neurosurgeons with Boulder Neurosurgical and Spine Associates, Drs. Villavicencio and Beasley are dedicated to bringing to communities BCH serves innovation and the highest quality neurosurgical care.

Dr. Villavicencio is one of only a handful of surgeons in the country with dual neurosurgery and orthopedic spine training. He has extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery for treating a variety of spinal conditions — including with the Mazor X™ Stealth robotic guidance system — and complex reconstructive spine surgery, ranging from degenerative disc disease to scoliosis. Dr. Villavicencio also treats brain disorders, as well as all types of brain tumors, and performs up to 500 operative cases each year.

Dr. Beasley is one of the only dually credentialed neurosurgeon bioethicists in the world. She is fully trained as a general neurosurgeon in cranial and spinal trauma, endoscopic and open tumor surgery, radiosurgery, complex disorders of the spine, including tumor and degenerative spinal disease, and neuromodulation. She is the most experienced neurosurgeon in Colorado and the surrounding multi-state region performing Neuravive treatment, an incision-free, MR-guided focused ultrasound treatment for essential tremor.

Our new neurosurgery practice will be at the same location as the previous Boulder Neurosurgical and Spine Associates office at Anderson Medical Center — located at 4743 Arapahoe Ave., Suite 202 — and will offer treatment for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Back pain
  • Brain and spinal cord tumors
  • Brain aneurysms
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Essential tremor
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Pituitary tumors
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Stroke

Exciting things continue to happen at BCH, and we’re pleased that two very skilled neurosurgeons widely recognized for expertly treating a variety of spinal and brain conditions, along with three talented physician assistants, will continue to care for patients at BCH.
