New Exhibit at the Museum of Boulder: 100 Years of Boulder Community Health

The Museum of Boulder celebrates the centennial anniversary of Boulder Community Health (BCH) with a new exhibit, 100 Years of Boulder Community Health, opening on Aug. 18, 2022. As the exhibit’s name suggests, it highlights BCH’s 100-year history, partnerships and innovations — from its very beginnings on April 19, 1922, all the way through to its steadfast commitment to the Boulder community during the COVID-19 pandemic and its centennial celebrations.

The exhibit, located in the Tebo Center at the Museum of Boulder, speaks to how BCH was born a century ago from a powerful but simple insight: local control of health care resources is the best approach to safeguard the health and well-being of Boulder County families. This story begins with photos of BCH historical buildings and a handful of artifacts from years gone by such as a Candy Striper uniform and a baby bracelet dated Dec 6, 1946. The exhibit then highlights BCH’s partner organizations that are crucial to ensuring the health care system achieves its vision of creating and caring for the healthiest community in the nation.

“What makes 100 Years of Boulder Community Health remarkable is it not only looks back at our incredible past, but it reminds visitors how BCH has thrived, right alongside the Boulder Valley. It tells the story of how we’ve remained, through our 100-year history, committed to providing our community with local access to the very latest crucial, lifesaving care and services — all made possible by our dedicated staff, providers and volunteers, and by the generosity of our supporters,” says Robert Vissers, MD, president and CEO of BCH.

The exhibit’s final leg is a multimedia-based, interactive wall, where museum visitors can leave both written and voice messages of appreciation for BCH health care workers, and a “Born to be" wall that showcases the inspiring stories of BCH’s current staff telling us who they were born to be, and how they discovered their “why.”

100 Years of Boulder Community Health builds on the Museum of Boulder’s important mission of presenting, acquiring and showcasing stories as a dynamic reflection of our community and a resource for understanding our own lives and times,” says Lori Preston, Executive Director of the Museum of Boulder. “Thanks to the valuable input of BCH’s marketing team members, who worked on the concept, programming and community engagement with the museum’s curators, we have shaped a rich exhibit of BCH’s 100-year history and will preserve the artifacts and photos for the future.”

Experiencing 100 Years of Boulder Community Health exhibit, which will run through Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, is included in the admission to the Museum of Boulder and free for BCH employees and Museum of Boulder members. Tickets and prices for admission are available on the Museum of Boulder’s website.
