Boulder Community Health board members and executives gathered with leaders and officials from the Town of Erie Thursday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of a soon-to-be built, two-story, 40,000-square-foot medical office building, future home of several BCH-owned services, including a new BCH Urgent Care.

All BCH services are expected to open in early 2019.

“We are proud to partner with town officials and community leaders to provide Erie citizens with convenient access to important health and wellness services,” said BCH President & CEO Dr. Robert Vissers. “We are excited to join with Erie leaders and citizens in building a healthier future.”

The new medical office building will allow BCH to expand east and offer health services to an area experiencing ongoing population growth.

Erie Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Wagnaar and Mayor ProTem Mark Gruber also spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony, an event welcomed by officials from Erie.

“I was excited to be a part of the groundbreaking for the new Boulder Community Health facility in Erie, off of Briggs and Erie Parkway, today,” said Erie Trustee Scott Charles in a Facebook posting later in the day. “It will be a great addition to our community!”

BCH, one of only two independent, not-for-profit health systems in the state, has a vision for the future to partner to create and care for the healthiest community in the nation.

Dee Perry, the chair of the BCH Board of Directors, said there are several similarities between Erie and BCH, with Erie supporting community health with a great recreation center, bike and walking paths and more.

“The key to understanding BCH is our commitment to remaining independent, which uniquely positions us to provide services that reflect local values and local priorities,” Perry said, citing BCH’s Walk With a Doc program and efforts to expand needed mental health services in the area.
