Boulder Community Health is pleased to partner with Rocky Mountain Children's Health Foundation (RMCHF) to provide new and expecting parents a free Baby Box and educational materials to promote safe sleep and help prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

On Saturday, October 21, BCH and RMCHF will host the Best Start Program Drive-Thru community event at Foothills Hospital in Boulder to gift parents with the baby boxes.

To reserve your free baby box BEFORE the event, you must sign up here and complete a short online video education course.

Baby boxes, or durable cardboard bassinets, provide a safe-certified, convenient, additional place for babies up to six months of age to sleep or relax while under parental supervision. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading cause of death for infants between the ages of 1 to 11 months is related to an unsafe sleep environment.

“Boulder Community Health has a strong commitment to educating and supporting new and expectant parents in our community,” says Lisa Allen, director of the Family Birth Center at Foothills Hospital. "This fun and educational event fits perfectly with the Childbirth and Parenting classes, new mom support groups, lactation support, and other resources we offer to families year-round at Foothills Hospital."

The Best Start Program Drive-Thru community event at Foothills Hospital in Boulder will be held on Saturday, October 21 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Parents can just drive into the Foothills Hospital parking lot, follow signs, show your education certificate, and drive off with your new baby box. Each baby box contain a firm mattress with waterproof cover and sheet, education materials on safe sleep, breastfeeding, and brain-building activities, and a goodie bag with useful items like diapers.

Baby boxes are a 75-year tradition in Finland, where the government provides one to every expectant mom and they are believed to contribute to one of the world’s lowest infant mortality rates.
