Shortly after Boulder's Christine Statchel celebrated her baby son's first birthday, her thoughts turned to the nurses at Boulder Community Health's Special Care Nursery she credits with saving his life.

"We were talking about the NICU last night," Statchel wrote in a thank you message to Boulder Community Health's Facebook page. "We thank God they took such good care of him. They saved my little man."

Born almost eight weeks premature, Koamalu Statchel spent time at the Family Birth Center's Special Care Nursery. Koamalu went home weighing four pounds -- and has been growing steadily ever since.

"His nurse Sharon walked us out," Statchel remembered. "A year ago today my son was released from the NICU at Boulder Community Health. We are so happy with how they treated my little guy!!!"

Koamalu's mom sent us these photos to thank the nurses who cared for him.
