Living Well With Parkinson's: A Rehabilitation Team Approach

Join Boulder Community Health Outpatient Rehabilitation Parkinson’s specialists for an interactive discussion about the benefits of physical, occupational, voice and swallowing therapy in helping people with Parkinson’s Disease live active and fulfilling lives. Learn about the importance of a holistic team approach for people in all stages of Parkinson’s Disease.

Presenters from Boulder Community Health Outpatient Rehabilitation Team:
Ann Brexa, OTR, has 40 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist working in outpatient rehabilitation. She applies her vast neurologic knowledge and a functional approach when working with people with Parkinson’s and their care partners. She also performs Safe Driver Assessments, clinical assessment of the physical, visual-perceptual, cognitive, and concentration skills needed to function as a safe driver.

Molli Karen, MS, CCC-SLP, has a Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders. She has worked as a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient rehabilitation primarily treating adults with cognitive, communication, voice and swallowing disorders. She utilizes these expertise to educate and improve function in people with Parkinson’s Disease.

Nancy Hillmer, OTR, MOT, PWR!Therapist™ (Parkinson Wellness Recovery) since 2011 and LSVT® BIG Certified in 2008, began her career as an Occupational Therapist in 1982 in inpatient rehabilitation. She has worked in a wide variety of settings, but spent the majority of time in home health care. Since 2008, she has specialized in Parkinson's Disease treatment. She helped initiate the BCH Home Care Parkinson's specialty team and the BCH wide Parkinson's task force. In 2014, she partnered with Mary Richardson, PT, to create a Parkinson's exercise group at Boulder Community Health. Nancy maintains a strong presence in the Parkinson's community at large and has contributed to projects on local, state, and national levels. She volunteered for the PWR!Retreat in Scottsdale, AZ from 2012-2016 and participated in the National Parkinson’s Foundation’s® Allied Team Training for Parkinson’s in 2013.

Mary Richardson, PT, MSPT, Certified Balance and Mobility Specialist, and PWR!Therapist™ (Parkinson Wellness Recovery) since 2013, has 24 years of experience as a physical therapist. She specializes in balance and fall risk reduction, orthopedics, Parkinson’s Disease, and other neurologic conditions. Since 2014, Mary has been teaching PWR!Moves™, a dynamic exercise class specifically designed for people with Parkinson’s that puts into action the principles of PWR!Exercise4BrainChange®. She has also been actively involved in Parkinson’s community events including a weeklong exercise-focused PWR!Retreat in Arizona and Parkinson Association of the Rockies Vitality Walk and e3 Conference-educate/energize/empower.
