An Emotionally Healthy Mom = An Emotionally Healthy Baby
Strategies for Preventing Postpartum Depression & Anxiety

Did you know postpartum depression and anxiety affect up to 1 in 5 new moms? In fact, they are among the most common complications of childbirth. The good news: These conditions are both highly preventable and absolutely treatable.

Once a month, we offer this supportive, 1.5-hour gathering for pregnant moms & their partners to help raise awareness and decrease any stigma related to these VERY common challenges--and to offer practical preventative strategies.

Especially valuable for women at high risk for developing a postpartum mood or anxiety disorder, this discussion is appropriate for any pregnant mom. To assess whether this class might be a good fit for you, check this list of risk factors for postpartum depression:
- History of depression, anxiety or other mental illness, Previous postpartum depression or anxiety
- Negative thought patterns: perfectionism, need for control
- Lack of social support, major change experienced during pregnancy, family-of-origin conflict
- Difficult pregnancy

Kate Kripke, LCSW, our facilitator, will highlight strategies to help you plan for a healthy postpartum experience during your first year with your baby. Topics covered include: postpartum emotional challenges and common disorders, risk factors, warning signs, and practical ways to decrease your risk.
