Cardiac Health and the Nervous System

  • Categories: Class, Mind Body Medicine, Cardiology

About This Event

  • Event Type:Classes
  • Max Capacity:35
Details:

The way we respond to stress significantly affects the cardiovascular system, from changes in blood pressure, heart rate, palpitations, to arrhythmias, chest pains or blood vessel spasms. At Boulder Heart, we offer classes through the BCH Center for Mind Body Medicine, that can re-balance the Autonomic Nervous System to reduce cardiac symptoms.

Four Tuesdays from 4 - 5:30 p.m. in Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion. Upcoming series include:

February 6, 13, 20 and 27

April 2, 9, 16, and 23

August 6, 13, 20 and 27

October 1, 8, 15, and 22

Please register for the start date only. You will have access to all four meetings with your payment.

It is important that life-threatening problems be evaluated by your cardiologist but reducing the stress in the nervous system can improve symptoms – even from very REAL cardiovascular problems – such as chest pains, shortness of breath, POTS and other forms of lightheadedness, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias. We use short lectures, videos, meditation and experiential exercises to teach:

  • How your central nervous system impacts your heart rate, blood pressure and vascular health
  • How you can change these seemingly automatic processes
  • How learned neural pathways might be causing the “autopilot” part of your brain to hold stress in the cardiovascular system
  • How the brain works according to the newest neuroscience

Who should participate?

  • Patients who have been evaluated by a cardiologist and advised to reduce stress
  • Patients who have been told or believe stress is impacting their heart and blood pressure
  • Patients who want to learn Mind Body tools to mitigate stress and complement your medical treatment

Facilitators

This class is taught by a Board-Certified Internist – Brad Fanestil, MD –  with special training in neuroscience and Mind Body Medicine. This is not group therapy, but a group format does allow class members to encourage and learn from each other as we practice exercises or discuss topics.

Cost

$180 for four, 90-minute sessions.

Space is limited. Register today. Limited scholarships are available.
