November Road Construction Alert

Ongoing construction on Arapahoe Avenue in front of Foothills Hospital will bring significant changes through mid-November that will directly affect those visiting Foothills Hospital campus, Della Cava Family Medical Pavilion and the Riverbend Office Park including changes in traffic patterns, lane closures and detours. We encourage all travelers to check their routes daily, plan ahead, and allow extra travel time.

Milling and paving operations are expected through early November, with overnight profilograph and striping activities continuing through mid-November. Motorists should expect significant delays and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.

Current Traffic Impacts on Arapahoe Avenue

  • Milling and paving operations on CO 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) between Foothills Parkway and Cherryvale Road
    • Work begins in the right lane at the southeast corner of Foothills Parkway, moving eastbound toward Cherryvale Road before transitioning to the westbound right lane back toward Foothills Parkway
    • Once the right lanes are milled, paved and striped, crews will move to work in the center lanes, then finish in the left lanes
    • Flaggers will be in place at the entrance and exit points along Arapahoe Avenue
    • Traffic may be held up to 20 minutes at these locations until the paving equipment passes
  • Eastbound and westbound single and double-lane closures between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road, but not at the same time
  • Significant delays are expected and alternate routes are strongly encouraged
  • Motorists should follow posted detour signs
  • Business access will remain open
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 MPH throughout the work zone
  • Please be aware of construction vehicles entering and exiting the work area

CDOT Updates

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing Colorado Highway 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) starting at Cherryvale Road and extending west to 28th Street in Boulder.

Work on this project is scheduled for completion in late December 2025.

The existing asphalt will be milled and overlaid with new asphalt. Milling removes the worn-out surface layer, and the fresh asphalt overlay restores the road's smoothness and improves safety. While work is in progress, erosion control measures will be in place to prevent sediment runoff and protect water resources during construction.

Work also includes Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades that include curb ramp installations. ADA curb ramps are a small but important part of making sidewalks, street crossings, and other pedestrian routes accessible to everyone.

Additionally, the City of Boulder will coordinate with CDOT to launch the East Arapahoe Bus and Turn Lanes Signing & Striping Project, which will convert underutilized right through-lanes into shared curbside lanes for buses and right-turning vehicles only, which will provide improved trip reliability for the existing bus service routes. This joint effort will help reduce costs, shorten construction timelines and lessen disruptions for the community.

The combined project between the City of Boulder and CDOT will provide improved ADA and safer connections to the corridor and bus service, as well as necessary safety and riding surface improvements for all modes utilizing the corridor.
