Boulder Community Health (BCH) is proud to welcome Alyssa Carlson, MD, primary care physician of Anchor Point Primary Care and Medical Director of Ambulatory and Population Health as our new Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Carlson brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and leadership to this role, building on her long and distinguished tenure at BCH, which began in 2001 as a volunteer and later as a Unit Clerk and Patient Care Associate in the ICU and Family Birth Center. After completing her family medicine residency in 2012, she began many years of clinical practice at Dakota Ridge Primary Care and Anchor Point Primary Care.
Additionally, she has demonstrated track record of strong leadership within BCH, serving on the Medical Staff leadership team since 2017. Since 2023, she has led performance improvement, care redesign and quality initiatives across our outpatient primary and specialty care sites as Ambulatory Medicine Department Chair.
In her role as Medical Director for Ambulatory Services and Population Health, Dr. Carlson helped drive meaningful growth and innovation in primary care, expanding access and enhancing patient outcomes. As a leader, she has and consistently championed clinical quality, operational improvement and the advancement of population health in our community through key initiatives to align clinical operations more closely with improved health‑outcomes goals. Her efforts have earned her wide peer recognition, including the “Excellence in Primary Care” award from the BCH Medical Staff in 2024.
In her new role as CMO, Dr. Carlson will partner closely with clinical, operational and administrative leaders to further BCH’s mission of delivering equitable, value-based care. Here’s what she had to say about stepping into this role:
“As a native of Boulder, I have always loved caring for the families of my hometown, and I am deeply grateful for the trust BCH has placed in me with this new opportunity to serve. My focus will remain on reinvesting in the health of our community by supporting our providers, strengthening our health system and ensuring that our patients receive timely, coordinated, exceptional care in this wonderful community we call home.”
We are confident that under her leadership, BCH will continue to advance as a model of community-based, high-quality care.
