Boulder Community Health named a 2025 Leapfrog “Top Hospital” for safety and quality

We’re proud to share that Boulder Community Health’s (BCH) Foothills Hospital has been named a 2025 “Top Hospital” by The Leapfrog Group (TLG), an independent nonprofit health care organization that evaluates hospitals across the country on how well they protect patients from preventable harm.

Each year, TLG reviews quality and safety data of more than 2,400 hospitals nationwide with approximately 150 facilities earning this designation. A “Top Hospital” award means that Foothills Hospital has received one of the most prestigious national honors a hospital can receive for excellence in quality and patient safety. The recognition looks at performance across some of the most important measures of care, including infection prevention, medication safety, maternity care and overall patient outcomes. To qualify, hospitals must meet rigorous standards and rank among the very best in their category.

“We are honored by this recognition and remain committed to continuous improvement for our patients and the communities we serve,” BCH President and CEO Dr. Robert Vissers shared. “It is an affirmation of our team’s dedication to the highest standards of patient safety and quality care and reflects the dedication of every single one of our physicians, nurses and support staff who make a commitment each and every day to provide patient-centered, compassionate care.”

TLG is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that rates hospitals on how well they protect patients from preventable harm, including accidents, injuries and infections. The Leapfrog “Top Hospital” award is given to teaching, general, rural and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in the Top Hospitals methodology. Of the 2,400 hospitals that were reviewed, a total of 156 Top Hospitals were selected for top safety awards, including:

  • 15 Top Children’s
  • 52 Top General
  • 16 Top Rural
  • 73 Top Teaching

“Foothills Hospital has distinguished itself through an unwavering focus on safety and quality,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This recognition reflects a culture of transparency and continuous improvement embraced by every member of the organization.”

This recognition comes on the heels of Foothills Hospitals’ recent “A” Hospital Safety Grade from TLG based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent these occurrences.

These achievements would not be possible without the dedication of our care teams and the trust of the community we serve. We are grateful to our physicians, nurses, staff, volunteers, and medical partners as well as our patients and families. You inspire us every day to raise the bar for health care in Boulder County and beyond.
