B Strong Center for Integrative Care Endowment

For 16 years, a community of riders, survivors, and supporters has funded access to whole-person, integrative cancer care at Boulder Community Health through the B Strong Ride.

With the ride coming to an end, we have a unique opportunity to make this access permanent. The BCH Foundation is launching an endowment with a $1 million seed gift and inviting our committed donor community to join us in securing the future of this essential resource.

Integrative care combines evidence-based complementary therapies — such as acupuncture, massage, and Reiki — with conventional cancer treatment to support patients' physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing throughout their cancer journey. Many patients credit integrative therapy with helping make their cancer treatment manageable as it reduces pain and nausea, regulates the nervous system and improves overall quality of life.

With more than $2 million raised over 16 years of B Strong rides, the B Strong Center for Integrative Care has expanded its reach to support a growing number of patients. In 2025 alone, the fund helped support:

  • 382 community members receiving care during cancer treatment or survivorship
  • 2,694 integrative care treatments that complemented medical care, supported healing, and alleviated side effects of cancer treatment

About the B Strong Center for Integrative Care

The B Strong Center for Integrative Care, located at BCH Foothills campus, is available for oncology patients, as well as cancer survivors, family members, and caregivers. Financial support is provided for patients who qualify, so that access is never determined by ability to pay.

What Integrative Care means to patients:

“To me, the Center for Integrative Care is the model the whole world should follow for cancer care. Weekly acupuncture and massage therapy were game changers throughout my treatment journey. My side effects were affecting my ability to tolerate treatment, but the integrative therapies brought significant relief—from digestive issues to other treatment-related symptoms. Their holistic approach truly changed my experience. Thanks to support from the Foundation, I was able to access services I otherwise couldn’t have afforded. I credit these therapies as a major reason I was able to get through my treatment.”

“I was amazed at the generosity of the program. I thought massage was out of my financial reach. I get to feel connected to my body and my spirit. I feel the compassion and care transmitted through Sarah's skillful hands. She is gifted and I am calmed in a way I forgot was available to me.”

“I have been seen for acupuncture for several years, and my treatments at the Center for Integrative Care have been intuitive, well-considered and profound. Tuesday Wasserman is a Master acupuncturist and my experience with her has been truly life changing. All the supportive staff and admin have been accommodating and welcoming. I have loved my experience with Tuesday and plan to continue to get treatment for years to come.”

“One patient came to the B Strong Center struggling with severe neuropathy that had developed during her second round of chemotherapy. She was in so much discomfort and so unsteady on her feet that she needed two canes to walk. She began acupuncture treatments twice a week, and over the following months she also changed her diet and began physical therapy. After eight months, she was walking with one cane. After fourteen months, she was walking without any assistance at all. Her next goal: to go dancing.”

The story of B Strong: A ride born from survival and gratitude

In 2009, cancer survivor, Kevin Mulshine and his BCH radiologist, Dr. Roger Nichols organized their first community ride. They expected a small turnout but instead, more than 500 people showed up and raised over $250,000, so they kept going.

Every year the event grew, eventually to 800–900 riders annually, with four route options, hundreds of volunteers, and major corporate sponsors including Celestial Seasonings.

In April 2025, Boulder Community Health officially renamed the Center for Integrative Care to the B Strong Center for Integrative Care — a permanent recognition of everything the ride has made possible.

In June 2026, the final B Strong Ride was announced for August 8, 2026. The final ride prompted the launch of a permanent endowment to ensure care for generations to come.

The endowment: Securing this care for generations to come

As we celebrate the final B Strong Ride, we invite you to become part of its lasting legacy. Every gift to the endowment—whether $25 or $25,000—helps secure integrative cancer care for future generations of patients. Give $250 or more and your name will be recognized on the B Strong Legacy Donor Wall.

We are forever grateful for the B Strong Ride for raising awareness, growing our community and fundraising on behalf of this impactful program. Together, we can ensure that the compassion and community that built the B Strong Center will continue to provide comfort, healing, and hope for years to come.
