Primary Stroke Center

We recognize that COVID-19 has taken the spotlight in health care. We want you to know that BCH continues to provide high-quality stroke care during this time. It is critical to identify the signs and symptoms of a stroke so that you get medical attention right away. Immediate treatment may minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death. The FAST acronym, developed by the American Heart Association, is the gold standard for recognizing stroke signs and symptoms. BEFAST is the updated acronym to include additional stroke warning signs. If you think you may be having a stroke, call 911. Boulder Community Health is here to take care of you!

Comprehensive Stroke Program

From the latest in emergency treatments and diagnostic technology to specially trained nurses and rehabilitation therapists, we support stroke patients at every step of their recovery journey. Our program includes:

  • Quick access to neurologists. Patients who arrive at our emergency department with signs of a stroke will be seen by a neurologist, without waiting to be admitted to the hospital.
  • Expedited care through Stroke Alert Protocol. Paramedics begin care in the ambulance and alert our stroke-care team so patients receive immediate treatment upon arrival at our Emergency Department.
  • Specialized inpatient care. During your hospital stay, an experienced neurologist will direct your care and work closely with skilled nurses who have received extra stroke care education.

Boulder Community Health’s expansive Rehabilitation division offers important resources to stroke survivors who have some disability. Rehabilitation is an important part of full recovery, helping patients regain everyday skills that can be lost from a stroke. BCH has the most extensive rehabilitation resources in our area. We provide customized therapy programs in the hospital and after you return home.

Our HomeCare staff can provide nursing care and continue therapy for patients who need support over a longer period of time.
