We believe that health is a fundamental human right so we seek to create
and expand access to comprehensive treatment and care for our community.
The BCH Foundation supports BCH in investing in the unpredictable and varying
needs, including funding for valuable preventative and overall treatment
services that are not directly covered by insurance.
Examples of programs that the BCH Foundation supports within Health Equity include:
Breast Cancer Treatment Fund
The Breast Cancer Treatment Fund assists breast cancer patients undergoing
treatment. Patients like Mercedes Alvarez: “They told us that the
financial side of things should be the least of our considerations. We
needed to worry about treating the cancer and not worry about what was
going to happen to us financially because of the cancer,” says Greg
Bowles, Mercedes’ husband.
The Integrative Care Fund covers the cost of alternative therapies for
cancer patients who are uninsured or underinsured, ensuring they have
access to massage therapy, reiki, meditation, acupuncture and more.
