About

Julie Hirman received her Nurse Practitioner (NP) degree and her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of Northern Colorado. Prior to joining Erie Primary Care, Julie served as Assistant Medical Director at Clinica Family Health Services for five years and gained over a decade of experience in primary care and pediatric care as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Julie’s journey into nursing began during her time as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. After her time in the Peace Corps working in underserved communities, she became a nurse practitioner and committed herself to a career focused on service and helping others. These diverse experiences fueled her passion for caregiving and learning about different cultures and traditions. Julie is a bilingual provider fluent in Spanish, and her work around the world enhances her ability to provide culturally competent care.

In 2019, Julie traveled to Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) to teach nursing students and help launch the country’s first nurse practitioner training program. She returned to the U.S. due to the pandemic, joining a Brooklyn, NY hospital to treat pediatric COVID-19 patients in a hard-hit area. As the first nurse practitioner hospitalist in the pediatric unit, she expanded the role and helped establish a team of five NPs.

When not practicing medicine, Julie enjoys traveling, hiking with her dog, and spending time with her twin adult sons and their many "grandcats.” She is also the proud owner of three special-needs cats who keep her entertained. Julie is an avid reader and can often be found lost in a good book during her downtime.
