Coming to BCH

Important Information for Your Visit to Boulder Community Health

Because of the continual presence of COVID-19 in our community, safety remains our top priority in all patient care locations. We are taking specific actions to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure for all patients, visitors and staff across all BCH medical facilities.

Whether you're coming to Foothills Hospital, one of our Urgent Care Centers or Medical Centers, or to a BCH primary and specialty clinic for an appointment, there are certain new policies in place that all visitors must understand and follow. Please see below for important updates regarding your visit to BCH.

All people entering a BCH care facility will be required to wear a mask (exceptions include children <2 yrs. old or medical reasons such as trouble breathing, unconsciousness, or someone unable to remove a mask without assistance). *Bandanas, neck gaiters, and masks with valves are not acceptable.

Coming to Foothills Hospital

Updated Check-In Policy for Foothills Hospital

BCH has instituted new check-in procedures to help keep all patients and staff safe. Please note that patients and visitors will be screened upon entry to Foothills Hospital and are required to wear a mask.

If you are here for Outpatient services, a cloth mask is acceptable. Bandanas, neck gaiters and masks with valves are not acceptable. A surgical mask will be given to you if needed.

If you are here for Inpatient services or the Emergency Department, both patients and visitors will be given a surgical mask.

We have made important changes in the registration process for patients scheduled to have surgery, heart catheterization, imaging scans and some other advanced procedures. If you are coming to Foothills for one of these services, please stay in your car and call us when you arrive for your appointment. Do not enter the building.

Step 1: Call 303-415-8190 to let us know you are here. Please continue to wait in your car.
Step 2: A registration representative will call you to complete your check-in by phone. Please continue to wait in your car.
Step 3: A clinical representative will call to invite you inside the building and provide instruction on where to meet. Please note you will be screened upon entry to the building and will be required to wear a mask.
Step 4: Meet the clinical representative to begin your appointment.

Updated Screening Policy for Foothills Hospital

Patients and approved visitors/vendors will be screened upon entering the hospital with the following questions:

  • Do you have signs and symptoms of a respiratory illness such as fever (100.4 F and above), cough, difficulty breathing, chills, sore throat, muscle aches (myalgia) OR new loss of taste or smell? Your temperature will be taken to verify.
  • In the last 14 days, have you had contact with a person who is positive or potentially positive for COVID-19 or with someone who is ill with respiratory illness?

If the answer is NO to both questions, the patient or visitor can enter wearing a mask.

If the answer is YES to either question, you may not enter.

Updated Visitation Policy

Hours of visitation are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All visitors will have to be screened for symptoms and need to wear a mask.

Patients are allowed one designated visitor per patient per day except for:

  • No visitors of patients placed in any type of isolation including COVID-19 rule out.
    • Exception: woman in labor who test positive for COVID-19 is allowed 1 visitor (typically someone who already lives in household).
    • Exceptions for end of life only made after consult and discussion with spiritual care.
  • No visitors of patients on the Inpatient Behavioral Health unit.

Hours of visitation are 12 to 4 p.m.

  • Surgeries or procedures outside of visitation hours: post-op patients may have one visitor upon admission to their hospital room for a two-hour time frame. Visitation would return to normal hours the following day.
  • Visitors must remain in the patient room and masked at all times for the entire duration of the visit.

Foothills Hospital ED:

  • ED may have one visitor upon arrival when medically necessary as determined by the care team.

Important considerations for visitation

  • Patients with disabilities who require help with the provision of medical or behavioral health care, activities of daily living, speaking for the patient or keeping the patient safe, may have a designated assistance person.
  • Parent or guardian accompanying a minor.
  • Family Birth Center – Support person(s) (limit 2) for L&D. COVID-19 patients are limited to one visitor. Visitor is presumed positive and must remain in the room. If the visitor leaves during the hospital course, they may not return.
  • End of life situations – limit to 2 visitors for non-COVID-19 patients.
  • At-risk visitors who are immunocompromised, pregnant, and elderly should consult their doctor prior to visitation.
  • If weather prevents outdoor/vehicle waiting for outpatient or procedural services, waiting areas may be utilized with proper social distancing.

Coming to a Primary or Specialty Clinic

Updated Check-In Policy for BCH Primary or Specialty Clinic

BCH has instituted new check-in procedures to help keep all patients and staff safe. Please note that patients and visitors will be screened upon entry and are required to wear a mask.

For traditional in-person physician visits, we encourage all patients to sign up for the MyBCH patient portal and e-check to minimize check-in time and fill out any required documentation before your visit. Once you arrive for your appointment, patients are given a tablet to complete check-in and are then escorted to an exam room to minimize/eliminate time in common areas.

*Please note that in some cases a physician clinic may require patients to call the office upon arrival for a visit. This may be posted on the entrance to the clinic.

For those who develop COVID-19 symptoms any time between scheduling and their appointment, please call and check with the clinic on how you should proceed. Your physician may determine a virtual visit is more appropriate, if you should call upon arrival or just check-in as usual.
