B Strong's "On-Demand" Event Raises Funds For Full Year of BCH Integrative Care

The following blog was provided by the BCH Foundation.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic precluding the possibility of hosting this year’s annual B Strong Ride, the event organization was still determined to raise the funds needed to cover costs for a full year of cancer care at Boulder Community Health’s Center for Integrative Care.

With that goal in mind, B Strong On-Demand was created to provide a COVID-safe “virtual event,” though still a real ride, which was held August 8-21. Small groups and individuals rode one of three B Strong routes on the day of their choosing. Riders were provided turn-by-turn navigation and map on a phone app with information on where to find water, restrooms and food.

“Cancer didn’t take a break for COVID, so B Strong couldn’t either,” said B Strong Co-founder Dr. Roger Nichols of Boulder Community Health. “The patients whose care we fund need it as much as ever.”

The On-Demand event proved a success with 257 riders and over $255,000 raised–enough to meet 100% of the funding needed for 2021 Integrative Care.

The BCH Foundation partners with the B Strong ride to help distribute and manage the funds to the Center for Integrative Care at BCH.

The Center for Integrative Care, located in the Tebo Family Medical Building on the Foothills Medical Campus, provides an array of complementary therapies that can aid healing and recovery. All services are evidence-based, integrated with conventional care and provided by certified and licensed practitioners. These therapies reduce stress and anxiety, and improve clinical outcomes by enhancing wound healing, reducing the need for pain medication and shortening hospital stays.

The Center provides services for individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment and cancer survivors, as well as their family members and caregivers.
