As of July 1, 2019, BCH and UCHealth’s new 18-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation unit is open at UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, offering comprehensive individualized services for patients recovering from such conditions as stroke, neurological disorders, brain or spinal cord injuries, trauma injuries, and complex orthopedic cases.

This partnership between BCH and UCHealth, which was announced in August 2018, expands access to vital Inpatient Rehabilitation services and builds on the care BCH has been providing for so many years.

“BCH’s vision is to thoughtfully develop partnerships that help us create and care for the healthiest community in the nation. Combining resources with UCHealth at this state-of-the-art facility is an important step in that direction. Rehabilitation care is extremely important to our patients, helping them regain their health and independence after serious medical conditions,” said Dr. Robert Vissers, BCH president and CEO. “We look forward to working with providers and hospitals across the north metro area to care for their patients.”

The clinical team at this unit will care for patients who have suffered life-changing medical events and need highly-specialized services to get back to living their lives as quickly as possible. The new inpatient unit provides patients access to a variety of specialties: physical therapy to help relearn movement, occupational therapy to help regain skills for daily living, speech therapy to help restore communication and cognitive skills and improve swallowing ability, and music therapy to help improve all aspects of well-being.

A New Team

Another exciting element of our partnership with UCHealth is that the staff in Broomfield is creating a new team drawn from both organizations. Those physicians, nurses and therapists — who will treat patients from across Boulder County, Broomfield, Westminster and other local communities — are experienced and talented clinicians who can care for patients with the most acute rehabilitation needs.

The Final Steps

The opening of the Broomfield facility also means the closing of the temporary rehab unit BCH had been operating at Foothills Hospital.

The partnership with UCHealth and the new inpatient unit in Broomfield are the final steps in a sweeping reorganization of BCH’s extensive rehabilitation programs, creating a true regional network offering expanded access and upgraded facilities. Our Pediatric Rehabilitation program is now housed in a brand new space at our Erie Medical Center, while Outpatient Rehabilitation enjoys beautifully updated facilities at Community Medical Center in Lafayette.
