Compassionate care comes in many forms at BCH. One of the loveliest ways
it shows up is through the care that Unit Clerk Brenda Duncan gives to
her ICU staff. On a regular basis, Brenda takes time out of her busy life
to create and offer an incredible and unique form of BCH's Tea for the Soul.
An excellent baker, Brenda creates scones, creams and delicate but delicious
sandwiches to serve up to her crew. She lays out a lovely, season-themed
spread as a back drop to her offerings. Staff get into the spirit of fall,
spring or various holidays while being nurtured and cared for.
Not the least of what Brenda brings to these gatherings however is the
gift of her presence. She has worked at BCH for 16 years, across almost
all the units, and seems to know everything and everyone. She puts people
at ease and they very much appreciate the personal connection. Staff seem
to relax and let down a bit in her midst.
When asked how she finds the time and energy to do this for her staff,
Brenda says that these offerings are as much a gift to herself as they
are to others. She deeply appreciates her staff - and needless to say
– the staff deeply appreciate Brenda. They are so very grateful
for her provision of respite and renewal in the whirlwind that is healthcare.
Our larger community at BCH is very grateful for her example. Thank you, Brenda!
