BCH is pleased to announce a new name for the Emergency Department at Foothills
Hospital -- the Paul K. Lewis Emergency Department. The new name celebrates
a legacy of care from the organization’s former Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Paul Lewis, who passed away shortly before his planned retirement in 2017.
According to BCH President and CEO Dr. Robert Vissers: “Paul Lewis’
gentle spirit, deep compassion and wise leadership were a part of BCH
for more than 34 years. He embodied all that we aspire to be as caregivers.
I can think of no better way to honor the many contributions that he made
to the lives of his patients, his colleagues and health care in our community
than by naming our Emergency Department in his honor.”
Dr. Lewis received both his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University
of Vermont and completed an emergency medicine residency at Denver General
Hospital (now Denver Health). He began his career at BCH in 1983 as an
emergency medicine physician and practiced for more than 25 years. In
2008, he transitioned into a new leadership role as the hospital’s
inaugural Chief Medical Officer. He served in this capacity for nearly
a decade, making innumerable contributions to improve patient care.
