gala dinner this Saturday, October. 21 BCH’s
Alicia Maltzman will be honored as a “Local Legend” by the Boulder County
AIDS Project for her work to improve the lives of people living with or
affected by HIV or AIDS in Boulder, Broomfield, and surrounding counties.
Maltzman, a board-certified nurse practitioner at the Beacon Center for
Infectious Diseases since 2003, is being recognized for her longstanding
superb patient care, volunteer work and education in our community. Over
the last 14 years, she has tirelessly provided consistent, compassionate
care and treatment to hundreds of people in the Front Range living with
HIV or diagnosed with AIDS.
Maltzman, a member of the American Academy of HIV Medicine and ACRN certified
by the HIV/AIDS Nursing Certification Board, is a beloved part of the
team at the
Beacon Center for Infectious Diseases.
“Alicia is the ultimate caregiver,” said Amie Meditz, M.D.,
a specialist at the Beacon Center for Infectious Diseases. “She
is a skilled clinician with laser-like attention to detail and a master
of meaningful communication with patients.”
Alicia has been a volunteer with the Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP)
since 2006. She feels honored to be able to speak at the BCAP volunteer
orientations and to speak to the community about HIV and pre-exposure
prophylaxis, a way for people who do not have HIV but who are at substantial
risk of getting it to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day.
“This honor from the Boulder County AIDS Project is incredibly flattering,”
Maltzman said. “BCAP is an amazing organization dedicated to supporting
those living with or affected by HIV and AIDS, and I honestly could not
do my job without their hard work and dedication. It is so rewarding to
work with my patients every day; to listen to and learn from them, to
channel that into ways that improve the health and quality of their lives.
They inspire me to be the best caregiver I can be.”
Saturday’s “Local Legends Gala” will also recognize Robert
Bongiovanni, a former branch chief for the STI/HIV division at the Colorado
Department of Public Health and Environment.
The annual event raises funds to provide HIV direct services to people
living with HIV and HIV prevention services including HIV testing, education
and risk reduction information and support.
The Local Legends Gala will be held Saturday in Levin Hall at the Boulder
Jewish Community Center located at 6007 Oreg Avenue in Boulder, CO.
Congratulations, Alicia, for this well-deserved honor!
