The Boulder Community Health Foundation, along with community partners,
will host a panel discussion Saturday on athletics and the importance
of mental health at the University of Colorado-Boulder Stadium Club at
Folsom Field from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The discussion: "Athletes and Mental Health: A Community Approach"
was created with the help of CU Sports Medicine and Performance Center,
HOPE Coalition of Boulder, the Boulder Community Health Foundation and
CU athletics. The event will be moderated by Derek McCoy, former collegiate
and professional football player, and Christopher Bader, counseling and
sport psychologist for CU athletics department.
The Daily Camera reported this week that
after the suicide of former CU Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam (pictured - photo courtesy: Daily Camera) in December, the community became
motivated to organize a discussion panel that explored the importance
of keeping athletes physically and mentally healthy.
