April 27, 2017, Boulder, Colorado – On April 28, 2017, Boulder Community Health (BCH) will open a
new Emergency Department at Community Medical Center at 7:00 a.m. The
existing Urgent Care Center at CMC will close permanently at 11:00 p.m.
the night before.
The opening of the new CMC Emergency Department offers the local community
expanded access to board-certified emergency medicine physicians 24 hours
a day, 365 days a year. This expansion of care is part of Boulder Community
Health’s ongoing commitment to ensuring patients have access to
“the right care in the right place at the right time” by increasing
access to a range of medical care options.
Boulder Community Health President/CEO Dr. Robert Vissers explains: “The
community around CMC has been telling us for some time that they needed
more access to higher level medical care in the evenings and weekends
when their regular doctor is not available. Over the years, we’ve
seen a steady increase in the number of people with more complicated medical
conditions coming to the CMC Urgent Care Center. Transitioning into an
Emergency Department will allow us to meet that community need in a more
comprehensive fashion by providing around-the-clock access to board-certified
emergency medicine physicians.”
Boulder Community Health is pursuing a multi-year plan to re-organize its
network of outpatient facilities in order to increase access to important
medical care options, including primary care and urgent care. Four BCH
family medicine clinics now offer extended morning and evening hours.
BCH plans to have extended hours at all 12 BCH owned-and-operated family
and internal medicine clinics by July 2017.
BCH urgent care services will experience a similar expansion of services
for patients who cannot wait for an appointment with their primary care
provider, but do not require the high level of care provided by an Emergency
Department. In addition to a recently opened Urgent Care Center in Gunbarrel,
BCH will open two additional centers in Erie and Superior over the next
two years.
