BCH patients grabbing dinner at a local burger joint this summer may have
done a double-take, with BCH's own
Alan Zacharias, MD, a board-certified neurologist by day, providing the evening's entertainment.
When he's not seeing patients, Dr. Zacharias can often be found up
on stage playing guitar with his Boulder-based rock band,
Three-Legged Dog, belting out rock tunes, as he was Tuesday evening at Big Daddy's
Burger Bar in Longmont.
The band regaled a big crowd outside Big Daddy's this week, as children
nearby ran after beach balls, and their parents and others enjoys burgers,
fries, shakes, beer ... and live music.
Dr. Zacharias says taking up music has been a great way to connect with
some of his patients.
"If they play an instrument, I always ask them, 'Hey, are you
still playing?' And we can compare notes on how we're doing,"
he says. "It adds another point of connection."
BCH
emergency room doctor Dave Whitling (pictured right) joined the band on drums for a few songs at their Big
Daddy's Burger Bar gig.

The band plays events and gigs around town - a welcome creative outlet for the
busy BCH neurologist who says he strives to provide patients listening-based care.
"People really want to be heard and know that I care," Dr. Zacharias
says, "And I do care."
