Many people experience the holiday blues in December. To create a space
for support and reflection and to lift the spirits of those who may be
"blue" this week, our spiritual care team, with help from the
BCH Foundation, coordinated "Blue Holiday: a Service of Music and
Reflection" -- on the evening of the Winter Solstice.
The event was open to all patients, their loved ones, BCH employees and
providers who may be experiencing loss, transition or other changes that
can make the holidays a blue time.
Music for the
service was provided by BCH musicians including physicians, nurses, therapists
and chaplains. Music included songs by James Taylor, Sting, Sarah McLachlan
as well as original pieces by our talented BCH musicians.
The service allowed staff and physicians to share their talents with their
community in a meaningful way while creating space for the less joyful
and celebrative qualities often present during the holidays.
During the service Dr. Doug Morgan -- before his performance with his colleagues
Jeff Carter, MD and Christi Goettsche, RN -- said the experience of preparing
for the Blue Holiday service reminded of the meaningful collaboration
he has experienced throughout his 26 years at BCH in service to patients
in the hospital.
We wish to thank the BCH Foundation and our BCH musicians for sharing their
gifts of music and heartfulness with us.
