Dr. Updike, a specialist in internal medicine, joined the hospital medicine
department in July 2013.
He earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame. He obtained
his medical degree and a master’s degree in public health from Tulane
University and completed his internal medicine residency at Brown University.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the American
Society of Nephrology.
Dr. Updike is from Muncie, Indiana. Prior to medical school, he worked
in southern California as a field archaeologist after he received training
in Wales and the Middle East. During 2012, he and his wife, Nancy, spent
time volunteering in and exploring western Kenya. He hopes to continue
volunteering domestically and abroad in the future. His interests include
anthropology, exercise, medicine, music and entertainment.
