BCH oncology nurse navigator Susan Hall and Tracy Lucas of Gastroenterology of the Rockies were on hand at Foothills Hospital today wearing blue and giving out information in support of Colon Cancer Awareness Month and #DressinBlueDay.

Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer death. But it doesn't have to be this way; through screening, it is one of the most preventable diseases. Regular screening, beginning at age 50, is the key to preventing colorectal cancer.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend screening for colorectal cancer using high-sensitivity fecal occult blood testing, sigmoidoscopy, or colonoscopy beginning at age 50 years and continuing until age 75 years.
