KT – 1000 Testing

The KT-1000 Ligament Arthrometer is an instrument used in measuring the anterior tibial translation.  The anterior tibial translation is a movement of the knee controlled by the anterior cruciate ligament.  The anterior cruciate ligament is commonly torn during rotational sporting activities.  It can also be injured in landing activities such as volleyball.  The purpose of the KT-1000 is to establish a normal measurement by measuring the unaffected side and then measuring the affected side.  Many times these differences are so subtle they are difficult to feel in a clinical exam.  It is also a way to give numerical measurement to an otherwise totally subjective part of the knee exam.  The KT-1000 is also useful in post-surgical testing of knee stability as compared to pre-surgical measurements.
