Specializing in family and sports medicine, Dr. Burton has been practicing medicine in Boulder for more than a decade. Previously he was part of a two-man practice in Denver that specialized in family and sports medicine. He currently practices at Table Mesa Family Medicine at the Foothills Campus of Boulder Community Hospital. His patients there range in age from newborns to some in their late 90's. Dr. Burton places a strong emphasis on the prevention of sport-related injures and on non-surgical treatment methods. Dr. Burton enjoyed sports as a child growing up in Topeka, Kansas. He moved to Denver, Colorado as a teenager and attended George Washington High School where he played football and was named all-state offensive guard. He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1981 and his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University. While in Denver he was involved with Midget Sprint Car Races and the Colorado Golden Glove organization. In 1985 Dr. Burton was appointed by the governor to serve as a member of the Governor's Advisory Council for Health Promotion and Physical Fitness. Dr. Burton believes the prime objectives of all sport activities are the development of character, respect towards others and perseverance in the face of adversity. In his spare time, Dr. Burton actively pursues Shotokan Karate, runs 16 miles per week, and enjoys snowboarding, fishing, snorkeling and canoeing.
