Robert Vissers, MD, named “Community hospital CEO to know”
We’re proud to share Robert Vissers, MD, President and CEO of Boulder Community Health (BCH), has received national recognition in Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Community hospital CEOs to know” for 2023.
The annual list recognizes CEOs of community hospitals across the country for their considerable skill and promise in their roles. They are responsible for fostering a positive workforce culture, overseeing strategy, expanding service lines and maintaining financial stability for their community hospitals. Dr. Vissers is among the 107 executives who received this year’s honor.
As Becker’s states, “community hospitals are often the unsung heroes in healthcare, and CEOs are tasked with managing the delivery of coordinated and affordable community care. Beyond just acute care, many community hospital CEOs also ensure that patients can access primary care, rehabilitation, public health services and other resources.”
As the CEO of BCH, Dr. Vissers is critical to our success and the driving force behind efforts to improve our community’s health. He works closely with staff physicians, and other community stakeholders to build a strong and collaborative team in support of top-quality patient care.
Becker’s noted how Dr. Vissers leads one of Colorado’s last remaining independent community health systems. In his role, he contributes to the strategic planning and overall management of Foothills Hospital, two emergency departments, and various primary care and specialty care clinics. He led our health care system in building its own instance of Epic EHR, making it one of the smallest health systems to do so. Dr. Vissers also facilitated the system’s partnership with Optum around revenue cycle, analytics and performance optimization.
Dr. Vissers is a health care leader grounded in 25 years of front-line practice in emergency medicine. He joined BCH in 2014 as Chief Operating Officer before becoming President and Chief Executive Officer in 2015. Prior to this, he held several leadership roles at Legacy Health, a nonprofit health system based in Portland, Oregon, and was also President and CEO of Northwest Acute Care Specialists, one of the largest independent physician groups in the Northwest.
