Our Pathologists

Our professional staff includes board-certified pathologists, certified medical technologists, medical laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, cytotechnologists, and histotechnologists who are dedicated to supporting both providers and patients.  Our pathologists and their credentials are:

Kevin Hanley, MDKevin W. Hanley, M.D. is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with extensive experience in Clinical Chemistry and Microbiology.  He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1969 and completed a residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1973.  Dr. Hanley joined Boulder Valley Pathology at BCH in 1975.  He is a member of BVIPA (Boulder Valley Individual Practice Association), Boulder County Medical Society (BCMS), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and is a past President of the BCH Medical Staff.

John Meyer, MDJohn Meyer, M.D. is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and the subspecialty of Forensic Pathology.  He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri in 1973 and completed an internship in Internal Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine in 1973.  After serving two years as a general practitioner in the Indian Health Services, he completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the university of Colorado Health Services Center and a fellowship in Forensic Pathology at Denver General Hospital.  Dr. Meyer joined Boulder Valley Pathology in 1982 and has special interests in Forensic Pathology, Blood Bank, and General Surgical Pathology.  He served as Boulder County Coroner from 1986 to 2002 and currently is Chief Pathologist for the Boulder County Coroner's Office.  His professional affiliations include the National Association of Medical Examiners, BVIPA, BCMS, and CAP, along with serving on the Board of Directors for Boulder Community Health.

Bill Howland, MDWilliam Howland, M.D. is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and the subspecialty of Dermatopathology.  He received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine in 1977 and completed his residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1978.  He completed a fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and affiliated hospitals in 1982.  Dr. Howland joined Boulder Valley Pathology in 1983.  His professional affiliations include past President of Colorado Association of Continuing Medical Laboratory Education (CACMLE), BVIPA, BCMS, and CAP, along with serving on the BCH Cancer Committee and as a member of the BCH medical mission to Tanzania.

Rob Forsythe, MDRob Forsythe, M.D. is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1997, where he also completed his residency in 2002.  He completed a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the Medical College of Pathology in 2003 and has special interests in Immunohistochemistry and Hematopathology.  His professional affiliations include BVIPA, BCMS, and CAP, along with serving on the BCH Breast Task Force, the BCM Medical Executive Committee, and the BCH Surgery and Trauma Committee.

Jason Smouse, MDJason H. Smouse, M.D., is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and the subspecialty of Cytopathology.  He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2002 and completed his residency and a fellowship in Cytopathology at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2006 and 2007, respectively.  Dr. Smouse joined Boulder Valley Pathology in 2007 and has special interests in Fine-Needle Aspiration (FNA) and Immunohistochemistry.  His professional affiliations include BVIPA, BCMS, and CAP, and he serves on the BCH Cancer Committee.
