Children's Swim Lessons Have Been Discontinued The current recession is hitting all parts of the country and all sectors of the economy. Our state and the entire health care industry have been adversely affected, which means that Boulder Community Hospital is feeling the impact, too. The number of patients using BCH has been steadily dropping since the middle of last year. The hospital has taken many actions to cut our operating costs, from instituting a hiring freeze and not replacing employees who retire or quit to renegotiating vendor supply contracts on more favorable terms. Since we do not expect the volume of patients to increase in the foreseeable future, it’s vital that we accelerate our efforts to reduce costs in proportion to our declining patient revenues. In order to safeguard our primary mission -- which is to provide the broad range of inpatient services needed by residents of Boulder County -- we are re-examining our support for community services that fall outside of those core services. Accordingly, we have decided to discontinue children’s swim lessons, effective May 1. We understand that you value this service and sincerely regret the impact on you. However, we must cut our overall costs in order to preserve our core services.
