at Boulder Community Foothills Hospital The Tebo Family Medical Pavilion is Colorado’s newest state of the art cancer treatment center. This 42,000 square foot complex integrates high tech cancer fighting equipment and expertise with full access to the latest clinical research studies and an extraordinary array of support services. The Pavilion was designed in a unique partnership between Boulder Community Hospital and Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC), Boulder County’s largest group of physicians specializing in cancer diagnosis and treatment. Treatment Approach Our comprehensive approach to cancer treatment combines the most advanced treatments with education, support services and complementary therapies. The Seven Levels of Healing Program®, introduced to Colorado by RMCC of Boulder, is a groundbreaking educational curriculum that helps patients and their family members learn how to skillfully and effectively navigate their journey through cancer. It provides clear direction for finding meaning, hope and practical solutions at every step along the way. The Tebo Family Medical Pavilion was designed with this holistic concept in mind. Our patient focused philosophy is served by the center’s beautiful architecture and a host of services that span the full range of emotional needs. Patients and families with a need for information about cancer can take advantage of the Resource Center offering personal assistance with Internet research. Those needing a space for reflection or relaxation can walk outside to a small meditation garden made even more beautiful by a fountain with a waterfall. State of the Art Equipment The Tebo Pavilion houses the latest in medical imaging and radiation oncology services. PET/CT scanning Accurate diagnostic imaging is critical to countering cancer’s advance—you can’t fight what you can’t locate. Our center features a new PET/CT scanner—the only one in Boulder County. This leading edge technology helps us diagnose cancer at earlier, more treatable stages. It also better defines the tumor stage, allowing physicians to identify the most appropriate treatment options. PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scans produce images of the body’s biological functions while CT (Computed Tomography) scans show structure and anatomy. A PET/CT scanner combines the benefits of these two proven imaging technologies to more accurately locate cancers and measure tumor activity. This accuracy decreases the need for multiple tests. Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) Our new linear accelerator with IMRT delivers high doses of cancer killing radiation to tumors with laserlike precision, decreasing the exposure of the surrounding healthy tissues and organs. IMRT is particularly appropriate in the treatment of prostate cancer, breast cancer and head and neck cancers where the tumor may be surrounded by vital organs. Image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) Often used in concert with IMRT, IGRT is a remarkable advance that marks the exact location of a cancerous tumor, making it easier to track over time. A surgeon implants gold markers into the tumor to act as a reference system for ongoing radiation treatment. This lets the radiation oncologist accurately retarget the tumor at each treatment session and thus compensate for moving organs. Best of all, IGRT’s ultraprecise targeting exposes less healthy tissue surrounding the tumor to radiation, significantly reducing side effects. Superior Chemotherapy Services Chemotherapy is generally an aggressive treatment and can be a difficult stage in the personal journey of cancer patients and their families. The Tebo Pavilion takes medical oncology—the treatment of cancer with medicines, including chemotherapy—to a higher level of expertise, compassion and comfort. Our skilled medical oncology physicians and staff use the latest systemic drug regimens and other high-tech medicines. Our spacious chemotherapy suite provides treatment in a calm and relaxing setting, overlooking the peaceful beauty of the Arapahoe Glacier basin. The suite includes comfortable treatment bays that include reclining chairs, internet access and other amenities. Groundbreaking Clinical Research Most of the impressive advances in cancer treatment over the past 30 years can be traced directly to trials evaluating new cancer fighting drugs and therapies. Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers and Boulder Community Hospital together provide the broadest access to clinical research in Colorado. RMCC received the 2006 Clinical Trial Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in recognition of their ongoing efforts to improve cancer care via direct access to clinical research studies. RMCC was one of just 12 oncology practices nationwide to be so honored. Over the past few years, RMCC has taken part in studies evaluating 23 of the last 29 cancer fighting drugs approved by the FDA (the federal Food and Drug Administration). RMCC’s oncology specialists are continuing this tradition at the Tebo Pavilion by participating in scores of clinical studies to test promising new therapies for all major cancer types. Complementary Therapies The Tebo Pavilion houses the Center for Integrative Care, an array of complementary therapies that can aid healing and recovery. All services are evidence based, integrated with conventional care, and provided by certified and licensed practitioners. The effectiveness of these therapies is supported by clinical research. They reduce stress and anxiety, and improve clinical outcomes by enhancing wound healing, reducing the need for pain medication, and shortening hospital stays. The Center provides services for individuals currently undergoing cancer treatment and cancer survivors, as well as their family members and caregivers. The center has massage therapy and acupuncture rooms, a small meditation garden, and access to support groups and counseling services. Available services include acupuncture, massage therapy, Healing Touch/Reiki therapy, nutritional consultation with a registered dietitian, wellness & integrative care consultation with a registered nurse, and yoga. To schedule any of these services, call 720-854-7292. Payment is expected at the time of service. Information about financial assistance is available on request. Cancer Resource Navigator The Tebo Pavilion is home to Colorado’s first patient navigator service, a joint effort with the American Cancer Society. Our Cancer Resource Navigator helps guide patients and their families to the community-based resources and support groups that can ensure their wellbeing and comfort. Resource Center If cancer strikes you or a loved one, the first thing you want is some straight facts about the disease. At the Tebo Pavilion, our Resource Center is the place to start.
