Leonard and Nancie Velick give back in honor of Dr. Jamie Doucet

In honor of American Heart Month, generous BCH donors Leonard and Nancie Velick have provided funding for discounted heart scans at three BCH locations: Foothills Hospital in Boulder, the Community Medical Center in Lafayette and Erie Medical Center.

Experts say that one out of three Americans will die from heart disease. And for 50 percent of victims of heart disease, the first symptom is a heart attack. For one-third of the victims of heart disease, the first symptom is sudden death. And 30 percent of the people who will die from heart disease have no risk factors for heart disease.1

On March 17, 2005, Leonard Velick underwent a quintuple bypass surgical procedure that improved the blood flow to his heart with five new routes, or “bypasses,” around the clogged sections of his arteries. Leonard remains grateful to his longtime BCH physician Dr. Jamie Doucet for urging him to undergo a HeartScan which saved his life.

Paying it Forward

Through their generosity, Leonard and Nancie are paying it forward through the funding of discounted HeartScans for the community during American Heart Month. The discounted rate of the scan will be $87.50 (half the normal rate) per patient. These scans are available for adults 50 years and older on a first-come basis. Thank you, Leonard and Nancie!
