Preventing Head Injuries at the 'Give a Kid a Bike and Helmet' Giveaway

by Joan DePuy, BCH Trauma Outreach and Injury Prevention Coordinator

group of people with kids on bikesJust in time for the holidays, BCH partnered once again with Community Cycles for their Holiday 'Give a Kid a Bike and Helmet' Giveway. For the past several years, Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates (BNA) also contributed to this amazing event.

This year, Community Cycles donated 310 bikes to low-income children and families. BCH, along with BNA, donated 271 helmets and 280 medical identification tags for the inside of helmets -- fitting and donating helmets to children and parents who otherwise might not have one.

We shared injury prevention tips about protecting the brain while having fun.

It was a cold, blustery Boulder day but all of our volunteers were there with smiles to help children in our community stay safe.
